Dear member
I last updated you on the latest news from the club in June and since then we have had quite a few developments which I wanted to share.
Hopefully like many of our members you will by now have taken part in our Wednesday evening senior or Monday junior sessions. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from members and coaches alike and I’d like to pass on the clubs thanks to every one of you who has booked or enabled these sessions to take place. Unfortunately we are still limited to 5 athletes and a coach under England Athletic rules; we will continue to follow their guidance and when we are able to make adjustment – larger groups for example, we will be sure to let you know. You can keep up with specific details on our new look website and of course book a session.
We continue as best we can to offer support through the run and talk programme and I would like to thank Chris Smedley Nugent for continuing to spearhead this. You should see the programme on the booking site. It’s great to chat through things with your fellow runners so please give it a go if you haven’t already.
We share the disappointment of everyone who has seen races fall away over the past several months but particularly to our marathon runners, with London being the latest (and perhaps most obvious) race to be cancelled. Please don’t lose your running mojo though and anything that we can do to help be it training – meets ups – sessions please just let us know and thank your for sharing your activities via Strava
The Wetherby 10k is alive and well in the Virtual world. We are desperate to continue our record of supporting the charities that you have selected this year but you can appreciate how tough that is given our reliance on social events and the W10k itself to raise funds. We think that our Wetherby Runners Virtual 10k is the ideal answer, within current restrictions, for keeping our charities supported – so please think about entering if you can. Wetherby Foodbank and Yorkshire Air Ambulance are fantastic organisations worthy of your support and in critical need. Our sponsors are rising to the challenge and we hope that you will too. Finally we have some movements in the make-up of the Committee and I would like to extend our thanks to Darren Whiting for all the effort and support that he has shown as Captain of the men’s team. I know that Darren has been proud to lead such a talented and dedicated bunch of athletes but due to him spending so much of his time at the opposite end of the country (the warm bit!) it is now time for Darren to pass the baton on to someone else. I’ll try to pop a description of the role on the website and in the meantime should anyone wish to seek out some details please feel free to contact me or any member of the committee. Just so you know this applies to any role as we are always looking for talented individuals to help with the running of the club.
Stay safe, keep running and than you for your continuing support
Kind regards
Richard
