From our Tri committee member Peter Callaghan:
There is light at the end of the tunnel and we must all be looking forward to enjoying the prospect of formal events again this year.
Our members are fully catered for with the running sessions organised by our fabulous running coaches. Cycling is slightly less catered for, with most people doing their “own thing” albeit that does tend to include a small group that regularly cycle together, but more as endurance and social rides rather than training. Swimming is a different story and again is more of each to their own, with a few of us getting together at the local pool lane sessions during the week and doing our own devised “sets” to keep us ready to race.
I would like to canvass opinion on what our Tri members really want from the club, with a view to organising some specific tri-training, whether that be transition coaching, runs off the bike, cycle effort sessions or even some swimming drills.
Please have a think about what you would like from your club in respect of coaching / group sessions and let me know. Whilst there are limitations on what we are allowed to do as coaches, ie we cannot coach on the open road, we cannot coach open water swimming, we can facilitate such events provided you recognise that you participate at your own risk and take full responsibility for your own health and safety. We can for example organise a cycle session with sprints, hills, efforts, etc and brief people in the car park and give them coaching tips and then lead the ride out (but not coach on route). Open water swimming is best in groups and again we can facilitate that on an informal basis.
Once I know what the members want I will put together a plan and communicate this. As the nights become lighter it will invariably be an evening session (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are probably best to avoid clash with running) and then there is also the option of a weekend session or even a mini-tri to get practice in all disciplines.
I look forward to hearing from you.
